Kim's weight loss through the ThinFromWithin principles and philosophy

Kim Hiatt
City & country: San Diego, California, USA Age: 37 Weight before diet: 155 lbs. Weight now: 136 lbs. Target weight: 135-140 lbs.
Understanding the emotional reasons for overeating was key to Kim's successful weight loss all those years ago. Now she helps others realize and deal with negative effects of emotional eating through a non-diet lifestyle change program called Thin From Within, a variation of which is available to help children and teenagers to lose weight.
-What finally made you decide to start with a weight loss program? It was twelve years ago that I went from 155 pound to 135. I actually didn’t really decide to start with a weight loss program. I decided that I had to let go and accept that I was 15 or so pounds more than I wanted to be. I got so sick of my body dissatisfaction and going on and off diets and losing the same weight over and over that I finally let it go. Once I let go of the struggle, my emotional eating slowly subsided and the weight began to drop little by little. I have successfully stayed in my target weight range for the last 12 years.
-What type of weight loss program did you follow? I didn’t know it as “Thin From Within” then, but it was the same principles and philosophy.
-Why did you choose this weight loss program? I hate dieting and I knew from doing it so much that it didn’t work for me.
-What kinds of physical activities do you like doing to maintain your weight and to stay fit? I do not exercise at this time.
-What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome or are still overcoming? Letting go of the media image of the ideal woman that is too rigid (toned, big breasted, no cellulite, tall, thin, forever 25 years old..... I could go on and on) for most of us to fit into.
-How did you keep yourself motivated? I let go and it was through this process that I stopped eating for emotional reasons.
-Do you have any weight loss tips for our readers? Do some soul searching and find out what is behind your excess weight. Is it binge eating, emotional eating, a diet/relapse/binge cycle? Get some help and support from outside sources. Look for a non-diet approach if you weight cycle and lose and gain the same weight over and over, such as Thin From Within
-Do you think it will be easy to fall back into your old lifestyle pattern? How do you prevent this from happening? No, I don’t think it will be easy to fall back into my old lifestyle because I learned to follow my body’s hunger and satiety cues. I eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full. It is actually second nature to me now.
-Do you have a favorite Web site or blog that helped or inspired you to lose weight? I am a little biased, but my favorite non-diet website for adults is ThinFromWithin.com. Marna Goldstein is the owner of this company. Marna offers a non-diet educational program for adults using coaching, teleseminars and products. My favorite non-diet website for children and teens is ThinFromWithinKids.com.
Thin From Within Kids is a non-diet educational program for children and teens wanting to lose weight. We (my partner Marna Goldstein and I) offer coaching, teleseminars, and products to help support children and teens who want to lose weight or who want to who want to accept themselves and stop letting the number on the scale impede them from reaching their full potential).
