The Zone Diet,

 
popular among a number of Hollywood celebrities, was developed in the 1970s by Dr. Barry Sears based. It's based on the principle that each meal should have a nutritionally balanced amount of proteins and carbohydrates. A meal would ideally consist of 40% carbohydrates (from fruits and vegetables), 30% lean or low-fat protein, and 30% "good" fats, hence the program's nickname: the 40:30:30 diet.

The Zone wasn't created primarily as a weight loss system; its main purpose is to maintain wellness by correcting and maintaining insulin levels, However, people have lost weight doing the Zone diet, as our interviewees show, and that it's a way of eating that's maintainable for life.
